How many times does the UN General Assembly have to adopt the Cuban Resolution demanding the lifting of the US blockade of Cuba for Washington to abide by, respect and honor the decisions of the International Community?
Despite the increasing denunciation against the U.S.-imposed economic, trade and financial blockade on Cuba, that siege of over 50 years is still in force and has inded been strengthened.
In October, 186 countries, of a possible 191, rejected for the 20th consecutive occasion at the UN General Assembly the continuance of that policy that has cost Cuba over 975 billion USD.
A new vote in favor of Cuba, in respect to last year, was given by Southern Sudan; no new votes against Cuba. The countries that were absent from the vote were Libya and Sweden. Those that abstained were the Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau, and the votes against were obviously given by the United States and Israel.
Although the current U.S. government has adopted some positive measures, they are insufficient and extremely limited, states the most recent Cuban report on the need to end that siege.
Among the positive measures are the authorization of US citizens to travel to Cuba for academic, educational, cultural and religious purposes, and allowing them to send limited remittances to the island´s citizens.
According to the text, these measures have no intention to alter the complex structure of laws and regulations comprising the policy of blockade on Cuba.
