For two weeks, the web and the Atlanticist media have been buzzing with rumors about the explosions, on 5 July 2013, at a Syrian Arab Army’s arms depot in the strategic port of Latakia.
According to some, the arsenal was attacked by Israeli aircraft; others claim that it was struck by an Israeli submarine. The arsenal purportedly contained Russian-made missiles.
The Free Syrian Army said it did not participate in this operation. Turkey denied any involvement in the affair. Israel yelped that it was being compromised. The loyalist army did not inform on the quantities of ammunition destroyed. It also failed to indicate whether it had pinpointed the source of the operation.
In reality, the arsenal was attacked from the ground. No aircraft or submarine were ever involved. It can only be asserted that the arsenal was attacked and partially destroyed by unidentified commandos.
