Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez met on Sunday at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas with a Cuban delegation headed by the VP of the island’s Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz.
The South American leader and the Cuban visitors spoke about the
upcoming Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas
(ALBA) scheduled for December 14-15 in Cuba.
Chavez recently announced that some of the topics to be discussed during the summit include the creation of grand-national enterprises, the ALBA bank and other projects of social, economic and political integration.
Jorge Luis Sierra, also VP of the Cuban Council of Ministers, the Cuban ambassador in Caracas, Rogelio Polanco, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro and the Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Rafael Ramirez, were also present in the meeting on Sunday.
ALBA, a regional group in favor of integration and cooperation, was founded in December 2004. It is currently comprised of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela.
