The President of the South African National Assembly, Max Sisulo,
paid tribute on Monday to his country’s independence hero Oliver Tambo at the Independence Heroes’ Park in Havana.
Sisulo was accompanied by Jorge Risquet, member of the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party and by Cuban Heroine and Brigade General Desla Esther Puebla.
The South African top legislator thanked the Cuban people for their contribution to the struggle against apartheid in his nation and he explained that he was not only paying tribute to Oliver Tambo but also to all African patriots immortalized in the Independence Heroes’ Park of the Cuban capital.
Sisulo arrived in Havana last weekend for an official visit at the invitation of his Cuban counterpart Ricardo Alarcon. During his stay in the Caribbean nation he will meet with local authorities to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and other topics of international and commercial interest.
Max Sisulo, who was elected president of the South African Parliament in May 2009, is the son of Walter and Albertina Sisulo, prominent anti-apartheid fighters and activists of the African National Congress.
