Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said that Cuba, with hundreds of doctors working in the Haitian capital, leads the efforts of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA) in solidarity with this sister Caribbean nation that was hit by a devastating earthquake last week.
During his weekly radio and television program ‘Aló, Presidente’ on Sunday, Chavez stressed that the island’s specialists have already provided health care to thousands of people in Port-au-Prince and other cities.
“We sent a few doctors but there are many others willing to go there,” announced the Venezuelan leader adding that the priority is to provide health care to the victims of the quake.
More than 400 Cuban health specialists are currently providing health care in four points in the capital of Haiti and also in several facilities in the outlying areas of the city.
