Cuban diplomat, jurist and academician Miguel Alfonso, with a
brilliant professional career at the service of the Revolution, died in the Cuban capital at the age of 74.
Born in Havana on May 16, 1935, he graduated from Law School in 1961, year in which he began to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which he devoted part of his professional life, the Granma newspaper reports on Tuesday.
He was a spokesman of the Foreign Office between 1994 and 1997 and an expert in Human Rights, and represented the Cuban government in international meetings and conferences, especially within the system of the United Nations.
He was also a jurist and an academician of well-known prestige, both in the archipelago and abroad. He was a founder of the Association of Cuban Jurists and a professor, for many years, of the University of Havana and the Higher Institute of International Relations.
Until the moment of his death, on Monday morning, he held numerous teaching responsibilities and acted as the President of the Cuban Society of International Law and President of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council.
