On Monday, 15 February 2010, all 66 Pakistani lawyers’ and bar associations unanimously adopted a motion declaring illegal Saturday’s government decree modifying the system of appointing judges.

In accordance with the decree, judges will be henceforth named by President Asif Ali Zardani.

It was over this same issue that the Pakistani middle-class had taken to the streets, leading to the downfall of General-President Perwez Musharraf.

Lawyers demonstrated in all the big cities of the country.
