Within the "irregular warfare" framework, House lawmakers added $20 million to the 2011 defense budget (2011 Defense Authorization Act) to extremists’ use of the Internet.
The allocation will pay for "emerging areas of research", to be conducted by the Pentagon, into better ways of stemming the effective tide of criticisms against U.S. policies on the internet with a view to developing a successful "counter narrative".
