The U.S. government has notified its NATO partners that General John R. Allen was placed under FBI investigation.

General Allen had succeeded General David Petraeus as commander of allied forces in Afghanistan. He was nominated by President Obama to be the next Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (SACEUR). His appointment - meanwhile put on hold pending the result of the investigation - is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate and the Atlantic Council.

General John R. Allen has maintained a relationship with Jill Keley, the woman who started the blackmail operation that caused the sudden resignation of General Petraeus.
