The Benghazi authorities have announced the constitution of an independent regional government in Libya.
At the end of April, the Benghazi authorities had proclaimed their intention to create an independent state. After six months of negotiations, they made the move. While, officially, the regional government claims to still be part of the Libyan federation, it has put its hands on over half of the national oil reserves.
The new region includes four districts : Benghazi, Tobruk, Ajdabiya and Jebel Akhdar. The new government is headed by a member of the Muslim brotherhood, Abd-Rabbo al-Baraasi.
