On the occasion of the speech he delivered on 30 May 2016 for the 20th anniversary of the Foundation for Youth and Education (Türgev), President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, emphasized the important role the organization played in educating youth on terrorism, and encouraged his fellow citizens to join. But foremost, the President commanded his fellow citizens to produce babies to kick-start Turkey.
“I declare it unambiguously (…) We have to grow our progeny (…) They talk to us about contraceptives and family planning. No Muslim family can have such a mentality. (…) We have to go forth in the direction that God and our beloved prophet indicated for us (…) Against this backdrop, the first duty falls on mothers”, declared Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Erdoğan, for whom real Turks belong to the Turkish-Mongolian race and are Sunni Muslims, has qualified contraception as a «betrayal».
On the occasion of the Festival of Women on 8 March, the President has declared that «women are first and foremost mothers».
From 2003, which is when Erdoğan came to power, the Turkish population has increased from 67.8 to 78.7 million inhabitants.
