After the formal welcoming ceremony, both leaders held official talks. They spoke of the existing friendship and cooperation ties and of other topics of common interest such as the results of the recently concluded Summit on Climate Change held in Cancun, Mexico.

Present in the meeting were Cuban VP Esteban Lazo Hernandez and Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina Gonzalez.
