According to the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Kamran Daneshjo, many Iranian college students applied to change their curriculum in response to the assassination of one their scientists.
Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, aged 32, was killed on January 11 by the explosion of a bomb attached with a magnet to the car on which he was traveling with two other people.
He worked at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, and was trained at the Sharif University of Tehran, the most reputed scientific university of the country.
Three Iranian scientists have been killed since January 2010, including two working for the country’s nuclear program.
The current head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Fereydoon Abbasi, was also targeted by a similar attack in 2010, which he survived.
A survey by the Sunday Times revealed on Sunday that Israeli Mossad agents were the authors of the Iranian scientist’s assassination.
To date, over 300 students from Sharif University and about one thousand more across the country have applied to switch major and begin a course of study in nuclear physics and nuclear engineering.
