The CIA’s new director, Mike Pompeo, has arrived in Turkey. He was welcomed at Esenboga airport (Ankara) by representatives from the US embassy.

He has met his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkey had hoped to secure from the US the end of its support for the Syrian Kurds, even perhaps some help to fight them, as well as the extradition of Fehtullah Gülen. [For its part] the United States was hoping to define the parameters for fighting both Daesh and all Islamists including their mother association: The Muslim Brotherhood. The White House is getting ready to include the Brotherhood on the list of terrorist organizations.

The agenda for this trip had been decided the night before during a conference call between President Trump and President Erdogan.
